Best vegan places to eat near Angel Islington

Friday 1st November is World Vegan Day. An annual event celebrated by vegans around the world to promote the benefits and of course, tasty options offered by a plant-based diet.

Here at Gents of London HQ, we are fortunate to be surrounded by a wealth of great places to eat and drink, enjoying the best of bustling Angel and the industrial chic of Kings Cross too. And we find no better way to unwind after work than to enjoy a bite to eat and perhaps a drink or two.

To celebrate World Vegan Day, we are giving you the insider track on the best places to eat vegan food in Islington.

Mildreds, Kings Cross

We adore Mildreds, and it’s a place you can often find our barbershop team kicking back and enjoying their tasty offerings. The original Soho branch of the restaurant has been in existence since the 1980’s, unlike some places that have jumped on the veggie and vegan bandwagon.

What we love about Mildreds is that it that it’s the perfect place for both vegans and meat lovers alike – serving up kebabs, burgers and even enchiladas vegetarian and vegan style – all hearty and filling dishes that will win over even your most carnivore friends.

Kobo Upper Street, Islington

We’ll let you in on a secret – while we of course, sip on our lovely Lavazza Espresso throughout the day, if we ever fancy switching up our hot drinks, chai lattes at Kobo are our next favourite choice. This tiny café on Upper street is a firm favourite for our afternoon snack time.

The vegan pistachio cake is, quite frankly, a wonder, and if you take a look at Trip Advisor, you literally won’t see anyone with a bad thing to say about this great café – it’s all 5* ratings!

The Gate – St Johns Street, Angel

Located just a short walk from Angel and just across from Sadler’s Wells, The Gate is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant that not only serves great food but is pretty stylish too.

A little more pricey than the other offerings on our list, The Gate – self-professed “plant-based pioneers” have a menu that will have your mouth watering. Whenever we visit, we can never resist the Mizo glazed aubergine, which just oozes flavour. A tremendous vegan treat!

Nem Nem Upper Street, Islington

Offering a huge separate vegan menu that pretty much mirrors their main one, Nem Nem is a popular choice with the Gents of London team. With a wide range of fabulous Vietnamese dishes, the staff here are also very friendly.

There are some pretty creative meat alternatives – ever tried vegan “scallops”? Neither had we, but their seaweed marinated alternative is pretty damn fine.

Whether you’re a vegan, vegetarian, or just someone who loves food, any of these eateries are sure to tickle your taste buds.
